The Spirit Night Scrimmage is coming faster than I think any of us expected! I remember hopping into my friends car at 7:45 to head to the football camp at Inman.
Personal story aside, Nickerson is BACK into the full swing of things. One of the best ways we can gauge how the team is doing is through their annual scrimmage the week before their first game, or better known as "Spirit Night"
While its only a scrimmage, its treated as much of a football game as any other.
While Spirit Night is quickly approaching, Nickerson is still head-down focused on their game against Conway Springs. Coach Bruce mentioned, throughout the times that I was there for summer practice, that he hopes for Nickerson to give an unexpected surprise at their football game, by winning, or putting up a really great performance.
He believes that the team has potential to be one of the best in the league, with the highest returning Varsity membership out of all of the schools in the CKL, Nickerson is in a great spot to be able to hit the ground running in their return.
Gabe Taylor, the starting Middle Linebacker, gave some insight on how things have been going as of late. "Yeah, I'm confident as I can be, [I've] been watching film."
After questioning about how he feels about Conway Springs, he gave a pretty sure-fire answer: "I feel like we'll smack em in the mouth a little, they won't be expecting it"
Finally, after asking about any season goals, his one and only was: "Have a winning record"
Gabe Taylor, a current senior, was on varsity last year and knows the ropes very well. Seeing his confidence in the team, and himself, makes me very happy for the future of this football program.
