The game between Nickerson vs Conway Springs has brought life back into the city of Nickerson considering their football team.
They had a very competitive game against one of the most challenging opponents in the state of Kansas. Conway had won 1A state twice in a row.
Unfortunately, the game ended up being a loss for Nickerson 20-28.
However, with that being the first game of the season, and the door still wide open for improvement, they look to the Haven Wildcats as the next opponent.
In an interview with starting wide-reciever Austin Peterson, he tells about the general feel towards Haven tomorrow.
"How do you plan to tackle Haven, do you think that it will be an easier opponent?"
"I wouldn't say easier, I'd say not as hard, they pass the ball more, as long as we play like we did friday, with less mistakes, we'll be good"
A dynamic passing offense is somewhat of a rarity in our area. Many teams opt to continue running the ball. That isn't bad either. Wearing down the defensive line is important to do. Teams like Chapman High ran the ball nearly every play on offense in 2024.
How will Nickerson be able to stop Haven's offense? That question comes down to how the locker room feels, and especially what it was like after the game last Friday.
"What was the locker room like after Conway?"
"it was still good, because we still fought all four quarters, which is a change. It was the defending state champs"
People should have their eyes on the Nickerson Football Team coming up! I think they'll be a really great team, and a competitve one at that.
